Gold in 2025: What the Charts Were Telling Us (And How We Traded It)

Gold had one of its most volatile years in recent memory. From geopolitical tension to central bank policy shifts, XAUUSD moved with purpose throughout the year. At TIC, we were positioned for it. Not because we predicted the future, but because we read the charts and followed the structure.

The DXY Correlation

One of the most reliable relationships in macro trading is the inverse correlation between gold and the US Dollar Index. When DXY weakens, gold typically strengthens, and vice versa. In early 2025, the Fed signalled a more dovish stance than markets expected. DXY began to roll over from its highs, and gold responded immediately. We saw the weekly structure shift bullish on XAUUSD and began scaling into longs from key demand zones.

This is not hindsight analysis. Our community saw the setups in real time. We mapped the zones, identified confluence with Fibonacci retracements, and waited for confirmation. That patience is what separates professional analysis from social media noise.

Safe Haven Demand and Geopolitics

Beyond the technicals, gold benefited from sustained safe haven demand. Ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, tensions in Eastern Europe, and concerns about global growth all contributed to capital flowing into gold. Central banks, particularly in emerging markets, continued to accumulate physical gold reserves at a pace not seen in decades.

From a TIC perspective, we do not trade the news directly. We trade the price action that results from the news. Our approach is to identify where institutional order flow is likely concentrated and position ourselves accordingly. The news provides context, but the chart provides the trade.

Key Levels We Watched

The weekly demand zone around $2,280-$2,310 proved to be a significant area of accumulation. Every time price pulled back into this region, buyers stepped in aggressively. On the upside, the $2,500 psychological level acted as a magnet for price, and the break above it opened the door to new all-time highs.

We documented these levels and shared our analysis with the TIC community throughout the year. Members who followed the structured approach were positioned to capture significant moves while managing risk appropriately.
